I don’t write advice because you don’t need anyone to tell you what to do.
What I do share are reflections on my own journey as a mother and a citizen of our current times, in the hope that you hear something inspiring, comforting or useful.
Whilst everything I write about is deeply connected it does shake down into three particular areas, listed here in order of how I came to them:
Spirituality IRL >
Spiritual teachings and self-help books are all very well, but what happens when we try to live these ideas and principles in practice? These are my experiences of living a “spiritual life” but in real life.
Deschooling & Decolonising Life >
Deschooling is the unlearning of the hidden curriculum we learn through school. It’s not just about what is taught, but how the whole culture of our society is shaped through how we learn to behave whilst at school institutions. (I will write a beginners guide to deschooling soon and link to it here!)
Decolonising is, in this context, the unlearning of the colonising ideology that is still very much alive today. These lenses of deschooling and decolonising are essentially the same, but focused either on the way we treat children, or the way we treat humanity and the living planet.
Self-Directed Education >
Also known as unschooling, consent-based and autonomous education, SDE is essentially what happens when we recognise that humans learn best when they are free to follow their intrinsic motivation and make meaningful choices, i.e. it’s the natural way we learn if well-meaning adults don’t start thinking they know what’s best for us… We radically unschool our children and these are my stories as an advocate and enabler.
